Work alongside NIKET’s technical team on real quantum‑materials use cases for critical infrastructure — and learn to carry an idea from research question to funded engineering.

THE PROGRAM

Own a real project from day one.

NIKET’s internship program brings students into the working process behind Q‑SMEC: finding where quantum materials can dramatically outperform today’s sensors, communications, and computing hardware in critical‑infrastructure settings.

Interns don’t shadow. Each intern takes on a defined project task and matures it using the same systems‑engineering and project‑management discipline NIKET applies to its funded work, in close coordination with NIKET’s CTO and technical staff. The goal is to move a promising concept a real step along the maturity ladder — and to give you the skills to do it again.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

From use case to tested concept.

You’ll shape one high‑value use case and carry it through the same stages NIKET uses on paid engagements.

Choose a high‑value use case in one of the 16 U.S. critical‑infrastructure sectors.
Research and document the current state‑of‑the‑art device — the hardware in use today and the performance that actually matters.
Define ambitious, order‑of‑magnitude improvement targets in the specifications the sector cares about — size, weight, power, cost, sensitivity.
Run pre‑feasibility and feasibility analyses of how NIKET’s quantum‑materials modeling stack could reach those targets, working closely with the CTO.
Write up the findings as feasibility reports — including versions suitable for technical or trade‑journal publication.
Help shape funding proposals to government, academic, or commercial sponsors to mature the strongest concepts.
Where a concept advances, help build, integrate, and test a prototype — and document the results, the roadmap impact, and any new intellectual property.
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN

Skills that carry past the semester.

Hands‑on use of the systems‑engineering and project‑management tools behind funded work — statements of work, work‑breakdown structures, milestone schedules, and IP strategy.
A working understanding of how a technology venture actually runs — systems engineering, project management, government contracting, and how intellectual property is created and monetized.
Direct exposure to how quantum technology is applied to “grand‑challenge” problems across diverse industry sectors.
Priority consideration for a future paid internship or employment at NIKET.
THE ESSENTIALS

What you agree to.

The internship is governed by a short written agreement, provided in full before you start — we walk you through every clause first. In plain terms: you keep NIKET’s confidential information confidential; intellectual property you develop during the internship is jointly owned by you and NIKET, while NIKET keeps its own background technology; and the agreement is governed by Arizona law.

A few practical notes up front: the initial term is unpaid, it is not an employment position, and interns are not covered under NIKET’s insurance during the program.
